Understand & Help Transform Young Children's Challenges & Difficulties
by Wendy Anne McCarty, Ph.D., R.N.
Saturday April 30, 9 am - 4 pm, Santa Barbara
Free - SBCC Schott Center - call for details: 805-964-6853
Too often we are at a loss, finding it difficult to understand and know how best to help our children with their personal challenges and difficulties.
Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology brings a new lens to help us discover the meaning of our children's problems and challenges. Learn how many current difficulties can be related to earlier life in the womb, at birth and as a young baby. By understanding the possible origin we can understand the current meaning and “story” of the child's difficulty, bringing new possibilities to help our children resolve difficulties and live healthier/happier lives.
This day gives a map to better understand children's issues and effective new tools to help transform them to positive patterns-not behaviorally (outside-in), but rather from inside-out. Participants learn how to use an energy psychology tool to help shift patterns.
Designed for parents and professionals. 6CEU - MFT, LCSW, & Nurses.
Dr. Wendy Anne McCarty is the Founding Chair and Faculty of Prenatal
and Perinatal Psychology Program at Santa Barbara Graduate Institute.
She was Co-Founder and Therapist at BEBA: The Whole Family Institute,

Over 30 years working with families: OB nurse, childbirth education,

RSVP Space is limited so please reserve: http://www.pathtofreedom.com/outreach/workshops/rockdust.htm
Our most optimistic expectations are no less than the realization of an old dream: 'What will fertilizing with stone dust accomplish? It will turn stones into bread...make barren regions (fruitful) (and) feed the hungry.'" ~ Julius Hensel; Bread From Stones (1894) ~
Potluck: Event includes a potluck afterwards, so please bring food and drink to contribute.
May Wine Punch will mulled and available at this event (using sweet woodruff, edible flowers and fruit from our yard)
Event Description: Research shows that many of our ordinary everyday foods have taken a significant dip in mineral content over the last half-century.
Adding finely ground gravel dust to soils is a tremendous boost to organic agriculture and can make it truly viable by adding up to a hundred elements and trace minerals needed by all life. Rock dust also nourishes the microorganisms in the soil, whose protoplasm is the basis of all living things.
Mineral deficiencies due to soil deficiencies could be behind dozens of common complaints, for without minerals, vitamins don't work. The body depends heavily on enzymic reactions for the production of many of the living biochemicals needed for full health. Enzymes in turn are heavily dependent on minerals and trace elements. Minerals are the bedrock of life.
Adding rock dust to horse manure increases the nutritional / mineral value of the manure.
Adding rock dust to your compost raises the energy level of the compost, increasing the bacterial levels of the compost.
Feeding the soil rock dust, you will be feeding the soils bacteria that is present in the soil, replenishing the soil with the vital minerals it now lacks.

Guest Speaker: Andy Lopez, The Invisible Gardener (www.invisiblegardener.com ), seen on PBS and heard on Don't Panic It's Organic every sat mornings on CRNI.NEt radio, operates a worldwide club called Club IG and has over 8,000 members will speak on Rock Dust,
The Invisible Gardener Andy Lopez goes to work with vinegar, a bag of flour, garlic cloves, peppermint soap, and a bottle of Tabasco sauce. He may sound like a Cajun chef, but he's actually one of the worlds most respected organic gardeners. He uses these items as pesticides. As time passes, more and more so-called safe chemicals are outlawed, he says, after society has been used as a guinea pig.

First of the series of three workshops (May 21, June 11, July 9.) We will talk about how to plan your garden and why gardening is so good for us. We will then do some of the basic tasks of gardening together.
Robin Temple's Bio: My formal training consists of a year-long apprenticeship with master gardener Harold Hoven at the Raphael Garden outside of Sacramento. Since then, I have kept one of my own and been hired to tend gardens for other people. I love being in such close communion with the soil. I love watching plants grow and feeling the forces of nature through them. I love the irreplaceable feeling of eating very fresh food. I believe that food grown in dynamic and vital soil is an important part of good health, both mental and physical.

New Mother Support Group
A supportive and fun group for new mothers and their babies.
Becoming a mother is a challenging life-changing experience for women. This ten-week group provides new mothers a warm nurturing environment to interact with other new mothers and share the obstacles and joys of life with a new baby. Each session begins with a check-in during which each mother has the opportunity to share how things are going. We then spend 30 minutes on a group topic and follow with open discussion. Sheepskin mats and developmental toys are provided for the babies. Refreshments are also provided. Mothers are encouraged to feed themselves and their babies during group.

Group Topics Include:
Sharing Birth Stories
The Transition to Motherhood
Mother-Baby Bonding
Attachment Parenting
Developmental Milestones
How Babies Sleep
Infant Nutrition and Feeding
How to “Wear” your Baby
Infant Massage
Holistic Family Healthcare
Maternal Wellness and Self-Care
Family Dynamics
(Guest Speakers will occasionally present group topics)

Mother Nurture Circle
Tuesday evenings from 7 - 8:30 pm, Long Beach
Kate O'Shaughnessy, LCSW: Banana Berry, 1090 E. Wardlow Road, Long Beach, CA 90807
562-572-3143 kateos23@aol.com
Cost is $100 month and a sliding scale is available.
The goal of this group is to provide a safe nurturing space for women to explore their feelings about motherhood. Being a mother is the most important job. Unfortunately, our society undervalues and lacks support for the work we do as mothers. As close communities and familial support diminish, women are left feeling isolated and insecure. This group brings together mothers with children of all ages and offers a place of respite and support. Members are encouraged to explore ways to find balance and nurture themselves. The group begins with a check-in and follows with open discussion geared toward the individual and group needs each week.
Meeting in the evening allows each mother a weekly reprieve from caretaking.
Individual Sessions
Sometimes a mother needs more support than the ongoing groups provide. She may be struggling with post-partum depression, partner relational problems, health challenges, childhood traumas, and other stressors. Some mothers just need an extra hour to further discuss group topics. Individual sessions are for 50 minutes and allow a mother time to focus solely on herself. Sessions can be arranged privately by contacting Kate at (562)572-3143. All groups and individual sessions are confidential.

All groups are facilitated by Kate O'Shaughnessy, M.S.W; L.C.S.W. Kate is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 10 years of experience in maternal mental health, child development and trauma recovery. She received her Masters degree in Social Work from the University of Southern California and completed training in U.C.L.A's Certified Lactation Educator program. In addition to raising her 2 children Tucker and Flynn full-time, she maintains a part-time private psychotherapy practice in Los Angeles and Long Beach.
