Many doctors, educators and parents express growing concern at the increasing number of young people being put on powerful medication for Attention Deficit Disorder, a condition often identified only by vague symptoms. A disproportionate number of young people are labeled and treated for A.D.D. in the U.S. compared to most other countries. This fact alarms many authorities, including law enforcement officials who now report high levels of abuse of A.D.D. and A.D.H.D. -related, prescribed drugs.
In this workshop, you'll learn current facts, and how to assess, test for and distinguish visual conditions that mimic or complicated A.D.D. You'll learn simple vision tests and what questions to ask.

AUGUST

Healing your childhood,
for the love of your children.
A workshop by
Laura Fine, M.F.T., H.H.P., M.a.
Registration 6:30 PM
Workshop 7 - 9:45 PM
Registration: At the door: $40.
Location: 121 30th Street, Santa Monica (just North of Ocean Park Blvd.)
INFORMATION: Adrienne at 626-345-1978
This seminar will offer an experiential opportunity for you to explore and discover how your childhood hurts may be subconsciously or uncontrollably showing up as conflict you may be having with your children, or observing in your children's behaviors with other children.
As conscious parents we want the best for our children. An inner unsettling motivates us to seek the most natural and humanistic ways to rear our children in such a way that they can retain their innocence, spontaneity and purity in a culture surrounded by harsh and abrasive stimulation.
For our children to grow up in happy healthy homes, we the parents are in urgent need of something so big and obvious and paradoxically so subtle and hidden that we remain confused, unsure and immobilized by its presence. This need in parents is a deep, oftentimes unconscious inner call for the internal experience of unconditional self-loving kindness, self-compassion and self-respect that many of us did not receive from our parents. Oftentimes this lack was not due to malicious intent, but simply ignorance and inability of our parents to perceive us as children in a supportive conscious manner. In our determination not to repeat their mistakes, we often inadvertently over-compensate, perpetuating our legacy in a different direction.
Where we get stuck in our parenting or where our children 'act out' with other children and/or with us, could be a reflective mirror of a lack or overcompensation from our own history.
Purpose: To provide insight, understanding, healing of our childhood wounds and innate gifts, thereby increasing the love, awareness and compassion for yourself and your children.
The topic will include discussion on the five childhood developmental stages and how they show up as gifts and wounds in our interactive relationships as adults.
In order to gain the most insight and benefit from our experiential process together it will assist the deepening of your understanding and experience if you can please bring the following to the workshop:
1) Selected photos of your parents
2) Selected photos of your children (if you have children)
3) Selected photos of yourself as a child
4) Ask permission from one of your children to bring to the class a few
of their favorite toys that you might borrow just for this evening. If you don't have children, if possible, bring a toy you might have liked to play with as a child.
5) Bring an inexpensive children's drawing pad.
6) Wear loose comfortable clothes that you can move freely and easily in.
7) If possible, bring a folding chair and pillow.
Laura would like to specifically incorporate your parenting questions and concerns: Please respond to the following:
1) Your reason for taking the workshop.
2) Any parenting questions and concerns.
3) A specific example of your response to a behavior with your child that is challenging for you. (For example: Johnny, who is 3, throws his toys at me when he feels frustrated when he doesn't get his way, and I respond by yelling at him, then I feel guilty.)
Please email your responses to at LauraLFine@aol.com
no later than the 20th.
Looking forward to seeing you soon and beginning this exciting exploration.
